BOURBON AND BARBECUE BATTLE WITH BULLEIT BOURBON
The Brotherhood enjoyed a special experience at the historic Stitzel-Weller Distillery. It was a pairing featuring two of Kentucky’s finest delicacies in a relaxing and enjoyable environment. We sampled five bourbon pours paired with sliders from three of the area’s top barbecue joints in a battle for Best Bourbon and Best Barbecue!
The evening began with a complimentary smoked Manhattan to showcase the distillery’s new cocktail program. Next, we participated in the barbecue and bourbon pairing. Whiskeys we tasted included Bulleit, Bulleit 10 Year, Bulleit Barrel Strength and Bulleit Rye. After that we enjoyed an open bar featuring cocktails and neat pours, followed by tours of the distillery, which opened on Derby Day 1935 under the direction of Distiller Julian Van Winkle, Sr. We closed out an amazing evening with fantastic door prizes as always.
Here is the recipe for the fabulous Smoked Manhattan:
2 oz Bulleit Rye
1 oz Carpano Antica Sweet Vermouth
1/4 oz Maple Syrup
2 dashed Angostura Bitters
Combine ingredients, smoke with cherry wood chips, garnish with Luxardo cherry.
