One of the most exciting new bourbons on the market is from New Riff Distilling in Newport, Kentucky. A small group of our members traveled to the distillery to select a fantastic barrel. After getting together for lunch, we took a tour of the distillery, then drove a few miles away to the barrel warehouse and tasting room.
New Riff is a high-rye, full bodied bourbon offering a savory, spicy character, and will be bottled at barrel proof without chill filtration. Featuring a mash bill of non-GMO grains at 65% corn, 30% rye, and 5% malted barley, it represents a new riff on Kentucky’s most hallowed whiskey traditions. Aged four years in 53 gallon toasted and charred new oak barrels, there are no shortcuts taken in the production.
