In honor of Memorial Day, 200 members of the Brotherhood gathered at the Vintage Warbirds Hangar at Bowman Field for a tasting of Old Forester bourbon. Old Forester was the first bottled bourbon and is the official bourbon of the Kentucky Derby and Churchill Downs mint Julep. Old Forester provided a tasting of all three of their Whiskey Row series of bourbons which includes their historic 1870 Original Batch, the 1897 Bottled in Bond and the 1920 Prohibition editions, along with a bar staffed by mixologist Russ Meredith. The bar featured a cocktail specially created for the Bourbon Brotherhood: The "SBD Dauntless", a cocktail crafted with Old Forester 86, Chambord, Semi-Dry Cider Syrup (from the Beer Syrup Company), lemon juice and a sprig of mint.
To go with our airplane theme, we demolished 1,200 wings (chicken wings of course) from Momma's BBQ of St. Matthews. Several historic vehicles from the Military Vehicle Preservation Association were on hand for our enjoyment.
Thank you to event sponsor, Copper Still Tours! who provided three door prizes with a total value of over $2,000! The prizes included a variety of distillery tours and even an overnight stay at 21c!
