In honor of Memorial Day, we gathered at the Vintage Warbirds Hangar at Bowman Field for a tasting of Old Forester bourbon. Old Forester was the first bottled bourbon and is the official bourbon of the Kentucky Derby and Churchill Downs mint Julep. Old Forester provided a tasting of their newly released Whiskey Row series of bourbons which includes their historic 1870 Original Batch and the 1897 Bottled in Bond editions, along with a bar staffed by mixologist Russ Meredith and featuring Old Forester bourbons. The bar featured two cocktails specially created for the Bourbon Brotherhood: The "P-38 Fork-Tailed Devil" and "P-51 Mustang".
The evening included a fly-by Warbird demonstration and a tour of the planes by the pilots. To go with our airplane theme, we dined on WINGS and beans from Momma's BBQ of St. Matthews. Several historic vehicles from the Military Vehicle Preservation Association were on hand for our enjoyment.
