In honor of Memorial Day week, we gathered at the Vintage Warbirds Hangar at Bowman Field for a tasting of Old Forester bourbon with Master Distiller, Chris Morris! Old Forester was the first bottled bourbon and Brown-Forman is making a big investment to bring it back to prominence. Campbell Brown, 5th generation descendant from George Garvin Brown who founded the company in 1870, took the pilot's seat of the company as brand President on May 1st. And Old Forester was named the official bourbon of the Kentucky Derby and Churchill Downs mint Julep. So this was a BIG month for Old Forester!
The evening included a fly-by Warbird demonstration, a tour of the planes by the pilots and a tasting of Old Forester varieties with Chis Morris and Cat Platz of Brown-Forman. We had a bourbon bar offering $5 drinks including special cocktails called the "B-24 Liberator" and "P-51 Mustang". To go with our airplane theme, we dined on WINGS from Momma's BBQ of St. Matthews, along with sides of mac & cheese and baked beans. Our friends at Louisville Cream treated us to a special dessert created just for this event called the Bourbon Baron: Old Forester & vanilla bean ice cream with pecan bourbon brittle!
